Playing with our Twin Towns

Oberhausen is going to be a playground making puppets dance. During the "Local Heroes" week from 25th to 31st July 2010, Oberhausen will turn into a big stage where the theatre scene from Oberhausen and the twin towns will meet for events, workshops and, of course, many theatre performances.
The highlights will be three puppet theatre performances: specially for the festival, the puppet player Ahmet Aksoy from Mersin is currently working out a traditional Turkish Karagöz shadow play in German and Turkish language on the topic of "living in a foreign country". Ahmet Aksoy will also offer a workshop on making Turkish shadow theatre figures. In addition, the puppet theatre ensemble Eesti Riiklik Nukuteater from Tallinn, European Capital of Culture in 2011, will present the piece "Das ABC des Puppenspiels" (ABC of puppet shows). It demonstrates to children of 8 years and over how easy it can be to understand a foreign language. Last not least the Puppet Theatre of Saporishja will show one of its performances. The focus of the theatre performance is the scenic-artistic installation "Carbonia-Oberhausen" by Peter Carp. It is based on historical witness reports by Sardic families whose relatives settled in Oberhausen as mine workers. It also deals with the question how life has changed for those who stayed when their relatives set out for the Ruhr. The installation "Carbonia-Oberhausen" will be shown in September at Theatre Oberhausen.
