TRACES OF: FATZER
Bertolt Brecht’s theatrical fragment, "The Fall of the Egoist Johann Fatzer", is all about four war deserters for whom life is more important than hunger and death. Brecht himself suggested that people should use his consciously incomplete play as a "quarry" to find a new approach to the theme.
Since 2008, on the occasion of the anniversary of the town of Mülheim, young people from Mülheim and the twin towns have been hammering away at the traces of Johann Fatzer, searching for fresh ideas for a more just society during improvisations and rehearsals in theatre centres. In summer 2009 forty young people from Mülheim (D), Beykoz/Istanbul (TR), Opole (PL), Darlington (GB), Tours (F) and Kouvola (FIN) continued the Fatzer project. In 2010 the finale of the international youth culture exchange will take place with 100 young people from Mülheim and the twin towns. During the three years of joint work friendships have grown up between the young people and the artists: friendships which have helped to emotionally enliven the partnerships between the towns.
