Where is "home"?

"A play that no theatre wants to present and no audience wants to see". This was the subtitle given by Wolfgang Borchert in 1947 to his play "Left Outside the Door". Highly contemporary work. Since 2007 students and professionals from Hagen and Smolensk have been working on a play about a soldier who returns home from the war and can no longer "feel at home".

Since 2007 students and professionals from Hagen and Smolensk have been working on a play about a soldier who returns home from the war and can no longer "feel at home". The "Miracle" group from Smolensk has presented the results in Russian, German and French to packed houses. It also guested in Hagen. In return the "Schloss-Spiel-Ensemble" from Hagen performed its interpretation of the play in Smolensk. In June 2010 the utterly different productions can be seen simultaneously in Hagen. On this occasion the Smolensk production will be projected onto a video screen whilst the Russian actor in the leading role will be on stage. The photographer Bernd Müller will follow this highly impressive exchange and his pictures will be exhibited in Smolensk and Hagen. In 2010 there will be at least three performances of "Left outside the Door". After one of the performances in Smolensk an elderly lady commented to one of the actors: "What a magnificent event. True I don’t understand any German, but your acting was so authentic that I was able to understand everything and went home in tears."
