Homestories
It is far from obvious that people of different nations and cultures can coexist in a peaceful manner. Dortmund’s twin town, Novi Sad (SRB), was forced to experience this in a particularly bloody manner after Yugoslavia fell apart in civil war in 1991. Nowadays Novi Sad is the capital of the most Northern Serbian province of Vojvodina, a border area containing many different ethnic groups.
What do young people think about their hometown, what are their ideas, what are they longing for and what would they like to change? With the project HEIMATGESCHICHTEN - HOMESTORIES, the two photographers from the Ruhr Metropolis, Tania Reinicke and Ekkehart Bussenius, encouraged young people from both the Dortmund suburb Nord-stadt and Novi Sad to document their individual experiences and their life "at home". Taking as a theme "a day in my life" the young people set out to discover their identity, their friends, family and places that are really important for them. Tania Reinicke and Ekkehard Bussenius also took black and white portraits of all the young people involved, alongside photographs of the urban landscape in Dortmund-Nordstadt and Novi Sad. These pictures show urban life as the most important living space and focuses on the social change it has undergone.
