In Focus: Art in Public Spaces
Art is communication. It demands debate and controversy, it wants to be taken seriously and have an effect on society. As far as art in public spaces is concerned, this often results in appreciative admiration over reactions of irritation to total denial or ignorance.
Photographers from the twin towns of Unna (D) and Ajka (H) will be taking art in public spaces as their theme, and they will learn much about everyday life and the culture of people in the other country "at first hand".
The photographers themselves are free to decide on what they regard as public art and culture. The view thrown on public art by the unerring camera lenses will vary between aesthetic, revealing and out of the ordinary. Or it might also result in unusual perspectives on familiar objects.
