"The European Young People’s Art Exhibition" in Essen, Herne and Bochum will be giving young artists the opportunity to present their works in three locations at the same time. It goes without saying that the region already contains a rich treasure of creatively active young people. The problem is that they have very little opportunity to show their work to a larger audience.

Since June 2009 young artists have been submitting three to five works each from the areas of drawing, graphic arts, sculpture, photography, video art, computer graphics and other techniques. The best submissions will be taken on a mobile exhibition accompanied by works produced by artists of similar ages from twin towns. The core of the project does not simply consist of the artistic works, but also includes the young people themselves. This means that they can expect to find a very special programme of young people’s artistic activities accompanying the opening of the exhibition in all three towns. Here, with the support of the participating twin towns, young people will be encouraged to meet up, make friends, and exchange ideas and opinions with a view to setting up joint projects that will also exist beyond 2010. In order to prevent the exchange from ceasing abruptly at the end of the exhibition, young people in the Ruhr Metropolis will be encouraged to visit their twin towns of Sunderland (GB), Grenoble (F), Tampere (FIN), Konin (PL) and Oviedo (E) – not only arty but party!
