Castrop Rauxel ... a Poem
Following an idea put forward by the author Roy Kift, the town of Castrop-Rauxel will be turning itself into a mecca of poetry from the 20th June until the end of August 2010. 2010 poems will be plastered all over cafes, restaurants, shop windows, hospitals, senior citizen centres, hotels and arts centres, many of which will serve as poetry oases.
Poetry paths will lead to poetry stations featuring artists and cultural actors in the town. The exhibition will contain a selection of the finest German poetry from the Minnesingers to present, not forgetting translations of classical foreign poems. The poems will be arranged according to themes like the seasons, family, young and old, the Ruhr area and humour. Lovers can not only wander along the "poetry path" savouring the romantic gems together. They can also participate actively by suggesting love poems or composing their own, and dedicating them to a loved one. The poems should not exceed 16 lines. It goes without saying that all subjects are welcome, not only love. There are no age restrictions on the poets and the exhibition is open to everyone in the German-speaking countries, the Ruhr Metropolis and its twin towns.
