Musicians from the European Capitals of Culture of the Ruhr Metropolis, Pécs and Istanbul, as well as from India, Mongolia and Canada will be meeting up under the leader-
ship of the initiator of the Caravan project, Rüdiger Oppermann, to create a "new global sound": to be more precise a special piece of music where style, époques, traditions and listening habits will be melted into a monumental world-music crossover event.

Beat box meets classical music, folklore meets electro pop, the ancient German lur (a wind instrument) meets Mongolian overtone singing, the Morin Khuur meets the harp, the Ud meets the gamba, bagpipes accompany air dance, shalms rings out with tablas and jazz mixes with taksim. This alchemistic experiment in sound will be structured in a strict melodic framework of constantly reoccurring leitmotifs. Rüdiger Oppermann and The Global Players, Zengö (Pécs), the Istanbul FolkJazz Ensemble and Haguruma Daiko (D) are the prime movers behind this meeting which will surely prove a fascinating event. According to the musicians, "We consider the nomination by Ruhr, Pécs and Istanbul as a commission to link these very different regions musically. The Ruhr has an important history of migration. For over a century many people from all over the world have met up here and this has resulted in a strong and diverse culture of hundreds of different kinds of migratory music".
