Cows, Coal and Rondabout
The inhabitants of Selm and Workington (GB) will be staging the history of the two twin towns in a bilingual review consisting of a loose succession of scenes. The framework for the show is constructed on three building blocks: the main basis will consist of scenes depicting important historic events or upheavals in the two towns resulting from contemporary events in Europe.
For example, oral history reports from the 1930s and 40s will be turned into theatrical scenes. In addition the review will feature specific moments from the history of the partnership between the two towns - events and anecdotes from the first visits, or scenes showing how the contacts between Selm and Workington helped to strengthen the sense of their own identity and the cultural identification with their own town. The third main idea behind the review will feature the ideas and visions of young people in both countries concerning the future of the partnership, or with regard to specific issues that would move them to commit themselves to working for the future of Europe. The young people will also be recording the performances of "Cows, Coal and Roundabout" on film for a full-length evening showing.
