East West European Jazz Orchestra

Rarely has a jazz orchestra set itself such a high target before the first rehearsal. And even more rarely has it been possible to believe that this target can be reached. Even before the East West European Jazz Orchestra was set up in 2008 the musicians had stated that they wanted to "raise their standards to an international level by developing an independent musical style embracing hitherto unknown cultural musical forms".
European and American style jazz from Dortmund and the Ruhr Metropolis will be joining forces with Eastern Jazz, Russian Art and Balkan Folk from Dortmund’s twin towns of Rostov-on-Don (RUS) und Novi Sad (SRB). Several prize-winning musicians will be swinging along with the ensemble, including the project head Uwe Plath, the conductor Andrej Machnev and the arranger Aram Rustamyants. The two dozen or so young jazz musicians between the ages of 16 and 20 have already received prizes in national competitions. In 2010 they will be joined by well-known international guest soloists Dennis Rowland (USA) and Milan Svoboda (CZ). It is intended to continue the "East West European Jazz Orchestra" beyond the year 2010 in the style of a World Jazz Orchestra addressing a total European public and aiming to attract the attention of young people interested in experiments and breaking through conventional artistic horizons.
