A remix can take something old and turn it into something completely new. The recording of an old song for example can be cut up into its individual sections and then put back together in a completely new way. New elements can also be added. This is happening at www.START-AB. com on the computer, the universal musical instrument of the new millennium.
In 2010 a project entitled www.START-AB.com will be uniting the music schools in the Ruhr Metropolis and its twin towns (as well as all other interested persons), to take part in the largest internet remix competition in Europe. Artists like Herbert Grönemeyer, Yello, 2raumwohnung, Clueso and Wir sind Helden have already given their songs to the project and in 2010 the artist Efrat Darky from Essen’s twin town of Tel Aviv (IL) will be contributing one of her unpublished songs to the contest. Participants in the competition will be working under professional conditions. They will have just 48 hours to take the song apart, put it back together in a completely new version and upload the track onto www.START-AB.com. Throughout the two days the competition will be accompanied by professional producers who will be standing by with advice. The winners can be sure of valuable non-cash prizes and awards to help them further their talents. A commercial recording of the winning remix is also guaranteed. The final gala party will take place on the 6th November 2010 and an invitation has been extended to Efrat Darky to give an exclusive concert in Germany – in the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010.
