Let me embrace you,...
… O millions. This kiss is for the whole world.", is a quotation from the "Ode an die Freude" (Ode to Joy). In 2010, some thousand people, maybe tens of thousands will get musical presents at both places by symphonic orchestras from Vilnius and Duisburg.
To celebrate their 25th anniversary of town twinning, virtuosi from both towns will perform for a whole day - neither at the philharmony or at the opera but in front of many, many people on public squares, in shopping centres, churches, parks, galleries and even at unusual places where the violin has probably never been heard before. As a sign of 25 years of town friendship and to show a musical "embracement" of both towns, Duisburg and Vilnius will set up about 20 Lithuanian-German chamber music ensembles from the members of the orchestras. That’s classic music performed with virtuosity "on the road". Both the muscial and the personal encounter is going to take place at the same time between the chamber music ensembles making music together for the first time and the passers-by stopping to listen to them.
