Over the starry Firmament
The future of mankind depends on the future of the earth. The concert project "Over the starry firmament" involving choirs and orchestras from all three European Capitals of Culture 2010, Ruhr Metropolis - Istanbul - Pécs, wants to set a musical standard on this.
Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, the Yunus Emre Oratory by A. Adnan Saygun and the Psalmus Hungaricus by Zoltan Kodály as well as three lyric texts especially written for this purpose by contemporary authors from the Ruhr Metropolis, Istanbul and Pécs formed the basis of the artistic work. The Psalmus Hungaricus is based on the 55th psalm, a complaint about false brothers. It deals with dispute, hatred, anger and outrage, i.e. a relationship that turns from friendship to hostility. The Yunus Emre Oratory deals with philanthrophy and man as a "creature of love". The Ninth Symphony including the musical version of Schiller’s "Ode to Joy" is based on a vision stating that we all are brothers and sisters. All the works have in common that they are appealing to mutual respect, confidence and openness and to live together in peace. The choirs taking part will rehearse parts of these works in their respective national language and present it in a common performance.
