Waterways link the twin towns of Herne, Wakefield, Konin and Henin-Beaumont. Water will also be the creative glue in an international camp starting on 9th August 2010, when young people between the ages of 14 and 18 will be working on a show entitled "Culture at the River" during the Herne "Local Heroes" week.
At the end of the campaign week they will present their final show on stage. The twin towns began working on this joint project as early as 2008. Since then young people have been cast and professionally trained in the areas of artistic presentation, dance, modern dance and break dance, performance and acting on mutual visits to the twin towns. During the Herne camping week the dance theatre group Renegade will be assembling all the different elements provided by the twin towns into a single stage show. In addition, participants in the camp will be designing a stage set to express the importance of water as a link between them all. The side programme will also offer circus and acrobat shows, discussion forums on themes like "living democracy", active educational games and joint cultural outings into the Ruhr Metropolis.
