Ruhr-Lit-Cup 2010
European Football Championship of Writers National Teams
The word "culture" originally meant nothing more nor less than "a tilled field". All the more appropriate then that writers will be taking to the field to demonstrate their skills in football. Football, art and football art, will be dominating the headlines in Unna from 29th April to 1st May 2010, when top writers will be shed
on what they can do with the football.
The German team, captained by the poet, Albert Ostermaier will be coming up against teams of writers from Austria, England, Italy, Sweden, Turkey, Hungary and a selection of writers from the Ruhr Metropolis. On Friday 30th April 2010, the first football-literature night will start with readings in bars and restaurants. After the semifinals and the grand final on May 1st the footballing writers will be offering guests a literary tour of Unna and the second football-literature night in the Centre for International Light Art including the award ceremony, small talk with celebrities, poetry slam and a football comedy show. Workshops and a conference on "amateur football and everyday cultures" as well as readings at schools are being planned for the weekend as part of the "Local Heroes" week: a healthy mixture of tackling and texts, physical workouts and mental challenges.
