Deep in the west of the Ruhr Metropolis the towns and cities of Bottrop, Dinslaken, Duisburg, Essen, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Oberhausen and their twin towns will be creating a network of international cultural youth work.

In Mülheim young people will be tracking down a play by Bertolt Brecht entitled "The Fall of the Egoist Johann Fatzer", and in doing so will be developing ideas for a more just society. At a creative workshop in Duisburg apprentices in heavy industry will be drawing inspiration from works of art. Seven fledgling rock groups of mixed nationalities from all over the continent will be composing and playing a song for Europe in Duisburg; and in Dinslaken there will be rock music from all over Europe in the streets, complete with choreographed dance shows. In Essen young acrobats will be staging an international variety show; and in Oberhausen a young people’s camp by the name of MULTI will be taking part in creative, social and sporting activities. In all the participating towns the kids will be taking part in the cultural life of the Ruhr Metropolis, exchanging ideas and opinions and developing new ideas and ways to express themselves. When all the individual parts of the project meet up on 31st July 2010, over 1,000 young people from 16 European countries, Israel and Turkey will be taking part in the culminating event, a farewell gala in the Ringlokschuppen in Mülheim, entitled "Varieté de la Vie - Arts & Action".
