A Song for Europe

From the 19th July to 1st August 2010 seven bands from the Ruhr Metropolis, the centre of Berlin, Merseburg, Blackpool (GB), Gliwice (PL), Veszprém (H) and Tourcoing (F) will be created in Bottrop. Each will consist of five young musicians between the ages of 14 and 21, with or without previous experience of playing in a group.
During a two-week song workshop they will compose, rehearse, present and make a professional CD recording of a "Song for Europe". All of the bands will have mixed nationalities. Each group will consist of five musicians from each twin town and one from the Ruhr Metropolis. The songs they create should be sung in as many languages as possible and contain elements of their own national music traditions. But the fun doesn’t end there. As well as the show itself there will be film nights, disco visits and the opportunity to meet up with professional musicians, composers and producers The high point of the project will be a live show in the Bottrop Spielraum, where the victorious song will be selected by a jury from the music branch and the general public. On 31st July 2010, on the evening before they travel back home, all the bands will appear once again at the final celebrations of "Varieté de la Vie" in the Ringlokschuppen in Mülheim an der Ruhr.
