Varieté de la Vie - KreativeWorkingworld Duisburg
"Where were you in the summer holidays?" - "In a steelworks." During the summer holidays young people between the ages of 17 and 21 will be able to experiment with stone, paint and workshop materials for six hours a day in the apprentice workshop of the Krupp Mannesmann steelworks in Duisburg-Huckingen under the supervision of the artist Rüdiger Eichholtz.
All the resulting works of art, including a sculpture specially created by the young people on the theme of "Varieté de la Vie", will be presented at the final "Varieté de la Vie" party on 31st July 2010 in the Ringlokschuppen in Mülheim an der Ruhr. In Huckingen they will get to know more about the world of heavy labour, and steelworks apprentices will meet up with apprentices from a shipbuilding yard. A trip down a coal mine is also on the programme, as well as excursions into the vibrant cultural life of the Ruhr Metropolis, visits to the Duisburg- Nord Landscape Park, the Zollverein World Heritage Site, discos and shopping malls. The young people from the six towns in the Ruhr Metropolis and their 27 twin towns will be accommodated in youth hostels or on camping sites.
