Cuculus 2010
Into the future together
Since 2008 school students from the Ruhr Metropolis, Marseilles and Istanbul have been joining artists to follow the migration routes of swifts, storks and swans and discover "alien features in the familiar and familiar features in the alien". Along the 7,000 km journey taken by the migratory birds teachers and students will come across stories, odours, pleasures, sounds and images from the perspective of the birds, and also in their own imagination.
With Ghandi Chahine they will transform these experiences into a sort of spoken music. To the accompaniment of drums, calabashes and other instruments the children will be singing along to the sounds of the birds under the direction of Dominik Muscat. School orchestras will interpret the sound of the different cultures. Aerial photos will be modelled out of stone or held fast in coloured material. The wind along the flyways will throw up the odour of couscous, fresh coriander and peppermint tea, the sounds of the various peoples will come together in song and speech and writing, and Johann Heinevetter will use the colourful houses of Ndbele in South Africa as an inspiration for a mural. This project has been run since 2008 by "artourprojects e. V.". Young audiences are heartily invited to participate in the performances of the "flying classroom"!
