Din Art Tent Art 2010
A tent has been touring the town of Dinslaken since the 26th of June 2009. It has been erected as a public workshop gallery by a group of 10 artistic people with mental handicaps. "From the inside to the outside world" is the artistic and social motto behind this project which aims to produce paintings (and at least one jointly created sculpture) under the leadership of two women artists from Dinslaken, Ruth Bojarra and Regine Strehlow- Lorenz.
At the same time mentally handicapped artists will be working on paintings and sculptures under the supervision of the artist Christoph Sanchez in the French twin town of Agen. In March 2009, "Lebenshilfe" in Dinslaken coordinated their efforts with partner workshops in Agen to enable an exchange of ideas and opinions between the creative artists. A second workshop in October 2009 resulted in works that were jointly created by both artistic groups. These will be presented in a large tent in front of the Burg Theatre during the Dinslaken "Local Heroes" week from 10th to the 16th of January 2010. The idea behind "Din Art Tent Art 2010" is not simply to earn short-term praise. It rather aims to enable people with handicaps to take a more active part in social and cultural life and, of course, strengthen their self-confidence in their journey from the inside to the outside world.
