Ruhrlights: Twilight Zone
When nature slowly turns a flaming red in autumn, the region along the Ruhr between Hagen and Duisburg will be lit up at night in a very special light. Thanks to the work of international light artists the natural and recreational areas between the towns will be presented as they have never been seen before. The illuminations were prepared in a workshop in Vilnius at the end of 2009.
Artists from the Ruhr Metropolis, Lithuania and German-speaking countries in Europe will then be working on the latest developments in light and video art and developing their ideas for the region and the project "Ruhrlights: Twilight Zone". On the 26th of September, the closing day of the exhibition, the Rhine-Herne canal – it will be transformed into a "Cultur Canal" in 2010 – will be linked with the River Ruhr in the Duisburg Inner Harbour. The final party will feature the ideas of the Lithuanian media artists that have been thrown up by the media workshop in Vilnius and further developed to match specific venues. The "architectural illuminations" will be accessible to visitors, and accompanied by multimedia performances and concerts in a variety of venues by the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra. Thus the new images will leave a lasting impression in the minds of the visitors.
