Inventions and innovations to provide new impulses for the Ruhr, Germany and Europe. Culture is more than art. The Ruhr Metropolis, a region that has been marked by permanent innovation, was and is the home of inventive and creative minds, discoverers, developers and courageous entrepreneurs.

The aim of the first European Inventors Congress is to make the region’s potential visible, in order to develop the Ruhr Metropolis the first ever assessable competence region as a "greenhouse of the future" and "shelter for ideas". This will also include a so-called "Ruhr City Talent School", constructively combining state training and innovatory attitudes with the needs of business companies. Top-class representatives from the areas of research, academia, politics and business will be giving their views on the latest developments, visiting open days in companies and institutions, and thematically related trade fairs - like for example young people’s and technical trade fairs - and talking to young people in schools and universities. Established developers will be working with their young colleagues on the theme of "Where do we come from, where do we stand today, and in which direction do we want to go?" among other things. In 2010 the Ruhr Metropolis will be pioneering the first European "charter of the culture of inventorship". As the initiator of the congress, the KIT initiative educational movement is aiming to have the congress move from Capital of Culture to Capital of Culture in order to arouse people’s inventive enthusiasm in a lasting manner. In German the initials KIT stand for Creativity, Innovation and Technology.
