from the Ruhr and Pécs

The Düsseldorf artist, Arpad Dobriban will be enlisting the support of students at the University of Witten/Herdecke to try to find out how many different recipes the region once had to offer, and rescue them from oblivion. It is not simply the valuable recipes which are threatened with extinction.
The taste of "home", the traditions, mentality and specific cuisine of people in a region are all getting lost and the food industry and restaurants are no longer able to serve them up. For this reason the Düsseldorf artist Arpad Dobriban will be asking the oldest people in the Ruhr Metropolis and Pécs (where he lived as a boy), about traditional dishes, recipes, ingredients and "taste" memories. All the dishes that have been recovered will be published and their special features publicised. The Ruhr Metropolis will be serving up old recipes from Pécs; Pécs will be doing the same with recipes from the Ruhr. Different dishes will be served up at a variety of events. The meals will be served and eaten in groups, because this is also a facet of eating culture which is threatened with extinction.
