In the Middle of the Edge
Young people from the Ruhr Metropolis, their twin towns as well as from Linz, Istanbul and Malta are invited to come to the Northern edge of the metropolis to discover the region, explore the structural change and the world of arts and culture so that, in the end, they will get the title "Ruhr Scout".
Interculturally composed teams will attend workshops dealing with dance, music, theatre or internet and will have to face the challenge of understanding cultural and linguistic barriers not as a problem but as a mission. Social hardship will not be omitted since the young people will deal with life situations of socially disadvantaged people as well as with their own experiences in the fields of borderline experiences, isolation and solidarity. In discussion groups, the participants will be informed about and think about ways how young people may shape Europe politically. In the practical part, they will learn how to apply for, organise and execute their own projects. The aim of experiencing that everybody and anybody is able to bring about something on-site and may also be able to exert influence on an international scale is to further develop the competences of young people and to strengthen their self-confi dence.
